ARCHITECTURE: THE "PIRCA" TECHNIQUE
The Septima wine cellar was projected by the prestigious Mendoza architects Eliana Bórmida and Mario Yanzón.
The building was planned respecting the techniques
used for centuries by the native Inca tribes of the region.
Specifically, they used the "Pirca" technique which consists of cutting and piling up natural stones from the Andes mountain range.
This is the same building procedure that the Huarpes Indians, one of the Inca tribes established in the area, have used since ancient times to build the walls of their homes and sacred places.
Like the rest of the areas influenced by the Andes mountain range, Mendoza is a region with a high risk of earthquake.
For this reason, the building of Septima needed deeply excavated foundations, making them suitable to the anti-earthquake building regulations.
In order to build the premises, the natural slope of the land was respected and only the central stretch of the premises was levelled for obvious reasons, as it constitutes the winery warehouse.
